DETROIT (WXYZ) — A suspect is in custody following dog fighting bust in Detroit Friday afternoon.

Detroit Police and Michigan Humane Society have been working on the investigation since early 2019.

Officials say a total of four search warrants were executed from various properties on Balfour Street and Edmore Drive on the city's east side. Thirty-five dogs were removed from the four properties owned by the suspect, police say.

The team was also able to identify and rescue a 'grand champion' fighting dog from one of the properties, as well as recovered items associated with dog fighting activity.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned Monday, March 11 in 36th District Court.
