(WXYZ) — More than a year after premiering at the Freep Film Festival, "The Russian Five" documentary is headed to video on demand with it being available on Friday, June 7.
The documentary showcases the Red Wings' line, dubbed "The Russian Five," and how they helped transform the Detroit Red Wings leading to the Stanley Cups in 1997, 1998 and 2002.
It was directed by metro Detroit native Josh Riehl, and will be available to order on iTunes, Amazon, Vudu, Google Play, Microsoft and Sony Playstation.
The release on VOD comes a few months after it began showing in several Michigan theatres with much anticipation.
To celebreat the release, three fans in Michigan and Ohio will have the chance to enter to win an exclusive prize that includes attending a private party, dinner, and seeing a special screening of the documentary, hosted by Darren McCarty, Riehl and the film's profucer, as well as the Grind Time Podcast team and Detroit Cast Crew. It will be held at Radio For One studios. After the dinner and screening, the winner will appear live on the podcast to talk about the film.
