The massive construction project that will close westbound I-696 from I-94 to I-75 in Macomb County kicked off Friday night at 9 p.m.

Traffic will be at its worst during the rush hour periods Monday morning, as that is the first rush hour that people will have to avoid the closure. It's expected the closure will last for about six months.

We have a list of different routes you can take to avoid the closure.

The main detour is taking westbound I-94 to northbound I-75 and then back to I-696.
