DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. (WXYZ) — Emergency crews rescued several people who were trapped inside their Dearborn Heights homes due to flooding on Wednesday morning.

Crews were on Hanover St. late Wednesday morning and rescued people from several homes using two boats. One of of the people rescued were bedridden and transported to the hospital via ambulance after the rescue.

Dearborn Heights was one of the worst hit areas for flooding, and the mayor has asked the state to declare a state of emergency in the city over the flooding. They have also set up a shelter for those affected by the floods.

In all, three families were rescued saying the water kept rising and there was no way to get out.

"My neighbor has lost six cars because of the flooding. This is the worst its ever been," one person rescued said.

"It's only up to my steps and it's coming in," another resident said while crying. "

Dearborn Heights officials tell us they have rescued 20 families so far on a priority basis, mostly those who have medical issues.
