When you think of the most popular sandwich in America, the hamburger may not be the first thing to come to mind.

But get this: Every year, Americans eat more than 50 billion hamburgers. That’s three burgers for every man, woman and child every week of the year!

That’s a lot of burgers.

We asked our 7 Action News viewers to weigh in on our online poll for metro Detroit's best burgers.

#7 Redcoat Tavern (Royal Oak)

Coming in at #7 is Redcoat Tavern in Royal Oak, a British-American pub & burger joint open since 1972. Customers say the burgers are great and the beer selection is wide. The interior is described as retro and cozy.

#6 Robusto Cigar Bar & Bistro (Sterling Heights)

Coming in the sixth spot is Robusto Cigar Bar & Bistro in Sterling Heights! Their Wagyu steak burger is ground in-house and served with Swiss cheese, pickled shallots and garlic aioli on a brioche bun. If you just want a taste, try the Wagyu steak sliders to share!

#5 Mercury Burger & Bar (Corktown)

Next, we go to Corktown and Mercury Burger and Bar! They’re fifth on our list. Mercury says they’re flipping classic burgers with a little something extra. They offer 15 burgers, but of course, you can create your own. Don't forget to check out the craft beer, poutine and old-school milkshakes.

#4 Motor City Sports Bar (Hamtramck)

Hamtramck’s Motor City Sports Bar pushed the bounds of creativity and takes the fourth spot. The owner says charbroiling the freshly formed patties are part of the secret. The grill has been seasoned for 18 years.

I had the Motor City Burger. Half a pound of ground beef, 3 ounces of corned beef, Swiss and American cheese on a toasted sesame bun. It is a large burger and lives up to the hype!

#3 Taystee’s Burgers (Dearborn)

Looking for a Taystee burger? Try Taystee’s Burgers! They have locations in Dearborn and Dearborn Heights and won the 2016 Detroit Burger Brawl. Taystee’s biggest burger has half of a hot dog, fried egg, beef, bacon, fries, coleslaw, grilled onions and pepperjack cheese on Toasted Brioche Bun. Bring your appetite! Taystee’s Burgers comes in third.

#2 Falls Sports Lounge (Dearborn)

Falls Sports Lounge in Dearborn is our runne- up! What’s special about their burgers?

“Everything,” says customer Jim Hamel. “I mean, they, they put love into it and it tastes really good and the people are always taking care of you.”

Customers say you can’t go wrong with any of the burgers with classic cheese to spicy and more creative options! And the coneys and corned beef are exceptional too!

#1 Achatz Burgers (Macomb)

The top spot goes to Achatz Burgers in Macomb. They're serving retro burgers, fries, and shakes and malts just like the diners and drive-ins of the 50s. It’s all made from scratch with fresh and hormone-free ingredients. These classic burgers come in sizes from mini to large. And be sure to leave room for dessert!
