In Ferndale, The Community Transit Service escorted citizens to and from their polling locations.
“It’s always one of our greatest goals to assist our community. We heard the outcry for it, so we provided that service,” says Lisa Bryant, Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation.
The Detroit Bus Company is doing the same. It’s serving all of Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park, getting residents to and from their voting spots.
“We gotta do it. Transit is our thing. We want to remove this barrier to get people to the polls,” says Andy Diderosi, Founder and CEO of the Detroit Bus Company.
The Detroit Bus Company is still offering roundtrip escorts to the polls.
The City of Ferndale has stopped the pick service, but will still take voters home from the polls.
