DETROIT (WXYZ) — Two people are dead after the car they were driving hit a tree and burst into flames early Tuesday morning.
The accident happened on 8 Mile and Wyoming on Detroit's west side. According to police, it is not clear right now what caused the vehicle to hit the tree.

A female driver and male passenger in the 2003 Audi All-road SUV were both killed, police say. Witnesses on the scene told Action News Reporter Ali Hoxie a man at the scene saw the fire and went to grab a fire extinguisher from a nearby gas station to save the people inside the car.

The witness says she believes she saw an elderly person driving the car. Police are still working to identify the two victims.
