Two Detroit police officers suspended following deadly high-speed chase

Posted

Detroit Police Chief James Craig said two investigations are underway after two DPD Officers went on a high speed pursuit late Monday night.

The chase ended with the death of 19-year-old Jerry Bradford, Junior when he crashed into a tree near the corner of Park Drive and Maiden on the east side.

Before he crashed into the tree, he hit another car driven by a 67-year-old man who did not have life-threatening injuries.

Craig said the officers violated DPD policy and apparently drove away after the crash.

He said the incident is on dashcam video, which he will not release. It is an older system and it did not record the officers talking inside their car.

The case is under internal investigation, as well as possible criminal misconduct with the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. It is not known when those investigations will be completed and decisions on the outcome will be made.

Craig said the officers have been with the department for three years.

They are suspended but Craig said he will go to the Board of Police Commissioners to have that suspension be without pay.
