UAW extends contracts with Detroit automakers

Posted

The UAW has now extended contracts with all three Detroit automakers.

Just after midnight, the union tweeted that its contract with Fiat Chrysler (FCA) was being extended on an hour-by-hour basis while negotiations continued.

Late Monday night, General Motors and the UAW agreed to extend its contract as well.

Ford and the UAW agreed to an extension earlier in the day Monday.

The UAW announced over the weekend that it had picked Fiat Chrysler as the target company for negotiations.

FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne canceled a planned trip to the Frankfurt auto show in Germany, a sign that the company may be close to a deal with the UAW. The deal would set the pattern for contract negotiations at Ford and GM.

The UAW's deal with all three Detroit automakers was supposed to expire at 11:59 p.m. Monday.
