(WXYZ) — A woman who worked as an international service representative for the UAW has filed a complaint for sexual harassment against three UAW leaders, court documents reveal.
Patricia Morris-Gibson, who has worked as a union leader for more than 22 years, has filed suit against the UAW, Miguel Foster, George Hardy and Gerald Kareem, claiming unwelcomed sexual advances and offensive conduct, discrimination as well as being threatened with demotion.
The lawsuit claims that despite the union having a "well-defined" sexual harassment policy, the defendants breached that policy "in every fashion imaginable."
More specific instances claim that on one occasion during Morris-Gibson's first week on staff, one of the defendants asked another co-worker, who is that "woman with the big titties and the small waist."
On another occassion, while Morris-GIbson was attending a Coalition of Black Trade Unionists Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, she claims that Miguel Foster, the UAW’s Assistant Director of Technical
Office Professionals and the plaintiff's immediate supervisor, propositioned her to sleep with him.
The lawsuit also claims that the alleged instances of sexual harassment weren't investigated by the UAW until April 2019, which was six months after George Hardy, the UAW’s Assistant Director of
Independent Part Suppliers, was made aware.
The woman is seeks upwards of $75,000 in the lawsuit.
"We have not yet received the complaint. As a matter of policy we can’t comment on pending litigation," the UAW said in a statement to 7 Action News.
