DETROIT (WXYZ) — The general manager for Marathon Petroleum, located in southwest Detroit, discusses building community connections on 7 Action News' 7 Upfront segment Thursday.
The company has been a staple in the Detroit community for over 60 years, and in recent months it has worked to develop programs and grants that give back to the community.
Since Dave Leaver began as general manager, he's made it his mission to increase focus on providing support for surrounding neighboring communities through education programs and much more.
Leaver talks about a recent program announcement regarding an effort to increase green space in the surrounding area. He says that families that are interested will be given an opportunity to sell their homes.
The company also plans to make the area safer by demolishing run-down homes in the area that are owned by the land bank.
