(WXYZ) — In our 7 UpFront tonight, we're taking a closer look as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Michigan.

We're being joined by Clinical Associate Professor specializing in infectious diseases and internal medicine Dr. Laraine Washer to talk about it.

You can see the full interview in the video player above.

"We've had a large increase in the number of cases of persons with COVID and, following that, we've seen more cases of persons with COVID being admitted to our hospitals, at Michigan Medicine and across the region," Washer says. "The rise occupancy and the forecast for even continued high demand for emergency care and admissions has forced our hospitals to make a decision, difficult decision, to rescheduled really a small number of surgeries later this week and into next week to really maintain our high standards for safe patient care."
