DETROIT (WXYZ) — A celebrity judge from Detroit is under fire this morning for spitting in a valet driver's face.

Judge Greg Mathis is denying the claim.

The Detroit Police Department have confirmed they are investigating an incident where a valet driver was spit on. But they say since the suspect is not formally charged at this time — they will not confirm whether the person responsible is judge Mathis.

It allegedly happened Friday outside Flood's Bar and Grille on St. Antoine and Lafayette in Greektown.

According to a report from TMZ, the valet driver had Mathis' key in his pocket and was out to retrieve another car.

He returned 10 or 15 minutes later and said Mathis yelled at him in front of co-workers and customers. And then allegedly spit.

Judge Mathis released a statement that read in part "We had a little verbal back and forth and that was the extent of it. There was no spitting, there were six witnesses there if they want to ask them.”

Mathis also claims he was waiting for 40 minutes for his car.

Detroit police say they are looking for any type of video from the incident.
