DETROIT (WXYZ) — You now have the option to download full-length HD movies in mere seconds!

Verizon has launched its 5G Ultra Wideband service to customers in select areas of metro Detroit.

Typical 5G download speeds are expected around 400 megabits per second (Mbps) even going beyond one gigabit per second (Gbps), while usual 4G download speed sits around 5 to 12 megabits per second with peak speeds around 50 Mbps.

In metro Detroit, 5G Ultra Wideband service will initially be concentrated in parts of Dearborn, Livonia, and Troy, including areas around the Oakland-Troy Airport.

When customers move outside Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband coverage area, the 5G-enabled devices hand off the signal to Verizon’s award-winning network, the network more people rely on, according to a press release from the company.

The company says the 5G network is currently available in nine cities and will expand to more than 30 cities by the end of 2019.
