This year, the special annual holiday event has been reimagined. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will not be a public tree lighting presentation and people are not encouraged to gather around Campus Martius for the special as in the past. This pre-recorded broadcast, which is packed with star power and Santa Claus himself, is an event you can enjoy from the comfort of your home with a mug of hot cocoa in your hand.
The focal point of the show is the 60-foot, Michigan-grown Norway Spruce, which will be lit up with 19-thousand magical lights after Santa counts down from the North Pole. Yes, the North Pole!
From the trimmings on the tree to performances by Motown legend Smokey Robinson, the special will excite and delight and help you ring in the holiday season with your family in the very best way.
Olympian Karen Chen will also dazzle viewers with a skating performance on the Campus Martius ice rink.
The special will air at 7:30 p.m. on WXYZ-TV Channel 7, Roku and on all of your favorite streaming devices.
