(WXYZ) — Thousands bid a final farewell to former Congressman John Conyers Jr. during a Monday funeral service.
The funeral service was held at the Greater Grace Temple on 3500 W. Seven Mile Road in Detroit.

Over the weekend, mourners gathered to pay their respects at a public viewing at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.Flags across the state are flying at half-staff in Conyers' honor.
Conyers was the longest-serving African American Congressman in U.S. history. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that contributions be made in his name to the Wayne State University Law School.
