HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — There are new concerns over flooding Thursday morning for people living along Michigan's shoreline.

High winds along with rain in the forecast leaving people in fear their homes will be flooded in places like Harrison Township along Lake St. Clair and even in Monroe. Just yesterday Chopper 7 captured video of waves crashing into backyards and boat docks. Today, winds are predicted to be anywhere between 15 to 25 miles per hour.

In Harrison Township, people have been preparing for the chance of flooding today. The Township Supervisor Ken Verkest is telling 7 Action News he has not seen water levels this high in 30 years, and the water has been rising for weeks now.

"We’ve purchased over 150,000 sandbags, 1,200 tons of sand and that’s in about two weeks," he said. "We’ve got pumps running in various places."

Some neighbors are already seeing water at their front door. The Army Corps of Engineers says water levels could rise as high as eight inches today.

There is a chance roads could be flooded as well. So if you plan on driving in the area, be prepared to be rerouted.
