WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. (WXYZ) — Wayne County Sheriff Raphael Washington is heading up an effort to help keep people in the metro Detroit area warm this winter with a blanket drive.
The blanket drive is for those who are experiencing homelessness or heating issues within their homes as Michigan sees single-digit temperatures.
“I don’t know who was happier those who received the blankets or those of us passing them out,” Sheriff Washington said. “The need in the community is so great we want to do whatever we can to help so that
no one succumbs to this frigid weather.”
The blanket giveaway will take place at several locations across Detroit starting Saturday, Feb. 20 at 9:30 a.m.
Here is where you can pick up a blanket if you or someone you know is in need:
- TCF Center (Pope Francis Center, enter on Congress between Cass & Washington)
- Greyhound Bus Center (101 Howard St.) (second stop)
- Rosa Parks Transit Center (1310 Cass Ave.)
The giveaway will go on as long as supplies last.
