(WXYZ) — As we all know, it is bound to happen - snow! We have had less than one inch of snow since December 1, but we will start to make up for lost time. A round of fairly light snow will arrive Thursday afternoon. An inch or less is expected across metro Detroit.
The biggest snow of the season was back on November 15 with 1.5 inches reported in Detroit. Obviously, not that impressive, so far.
However, this weekend is looking much more interesting as a major winter storm is just making landfall along the west coast and heading for the Midwest. Snow will arrive Saturday morning and continue into Saturday night. Right now, a widespread 5 inches snowfall will be possible across metro Detroit. Snowfall amounts will likely be a little less to the northwest and a little more to the south.
These rounds of snow will set the stage for an active winter pattern through the end of January. We can expect more snow about every two to three days for the next week to 10 days. This will be the first time we need to get the shovels ready, skis tuned up and can finally use those Christmas sleds!
