(WXYZ) — One rescue mission turned into a wild goose chase for the Monroe Township Fire Department Tuesday afternoon.
After a concerned family called about a goose or duck possibly injured on the River Raisin near Waterloo Park, the Monroe Twp. Fire Department sprung into action, suiting up and heading out onto the ice.

As crews got close to the reported bird in distress, they realized it wasn't a real duck or goose at all, just a decoy.
“It ended up being a good training session, actually,” said Monroe Twp. Fire Department Chief Mark Cherney.

Cherney said he is glad to know a bird wasn't in danger.
"In the end, we can sleep well at night. A bird is not suffering,” he said.
