(WXYZ) — A St. Clair County woman was killed on Tuesday morning after a deer hit by a car was thrown through the windshield of the woman's car.
According to police, deputies were dispatched to North Ave. and 31 Mile Rd. for the crash.
Police say a silver Chevy Captiva was traveling south on North Ave. when it struck a deer. That deer was thrown into oncoming traffic and struck the windshield, entering the passenger compartment of a white Ford 500 going northbound on North Ave.
The Ford then veered off a roadway and struck a tree. The driver, 28-year-old Erika Ladas of Capac, was taken to the hospital and later died. Ladas was also a dispatcher for Macomb County.
“Erika was an asset to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office in her short time here. She was a part of our law enforcement family. She worked diligently in dispatch to provide public safety to citizens in need. Our condolences are with her family," Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the family.
It's not clear if seatbelts were worn at the time of the crash.
