Updated: Woman fatally shot at Charter Twp. of Royal Oak dealership, police say

FERNDALE, Mich. (WXYZ) — Michigan State Police confirm a fatal shooting incident at Legends Motors in the Charter Township of Royal Oak on Saturday.

Police say Saturday morning at approximately 8:40 a.m., MSP’s Special Investigation Section responded to a dealership located at 10200 W. 8 Mile in the Charter Township of Royal Oak after receiving reports of an active shooter and shots fired.

Once on the scene, troopers say they found a 40-year-old female from Sterling Heights fatally shot in the dealerships' parking lot along with multiple spent shotgun casings.

After a review of 911 calls, MSP says a male in a white Chevrolet Equinox repeatedly shot the female while she was on the ground. The suspect fled the scene after the shooting.

At approximately 9:45 a.m., MSP says they were notified by Detroit police that a 43-year-old male from Oak Park had turned himself in at one of its precincts.

Based on information obtained during a preliminary investigation, police say the shooting was a domestic homicide and the victim and suspect have a child in common.

The suspect, police say waited for the victim to arrive at her place of employment.

The suspect was arrested and taken to MSP's Metro North Post in Oak Park.

The investigation is ongoing.
