WASHTENAW CO., Mich. (WXYZ) — Deputies in Washtenaw County are issuing an alert about a burglar who tied up and robbed a woman at her own home.

Deputies want the public to know that there's good reason to not only keep windows and doors locked. But also, don't fall for anyone claiming to need help after losing a dog.

In the quiet York Township neighborhood, which is just outside Ann Arbor, a violent predator has families living in fear. Neighbor Craig Kaiser tells 7 Action News it's been more than 25 years since anyone living on Biscayne Court has become the victim of a burglary like this.

Detectives say at about 11 a.m. Wednesday, a man rang a doorbell then knocked at the back door of the victim's home, claiming he lost a dog. After she cracked the door open, he forced his way in then tied her up and stole cash, jewelry, guns and other valuables.

For neighbor Carrie Chester it's a sign that you can never be too cautious.

The suspect you are urged to watch out for is a white man between 30 and 35 years old. He's between 5 feet, 8 inches and 5 feet, 10 inches tall with medium build, light brown hair. Police say he's clean shaven and wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans and black shoes. He could be driving an older black car.

The victim was not physically hurt during the ordeal. The robber is believed to be responsible for another home invasion the same day in Pittsfield Township.
