DETROIT (WXYZ) — The U.S. Coast Guard said the body of a woman was found in the Detroit River shortly after she was seen along the Riverwalk.
According to the Coast Guard, the woman was seen walking near the Detroit base around 5 a.m. Thursday and somehow went into the water shortly after that.
They say the woman's clothes and description matched the woman seen on the Coast Guard's security cameras set up outside of their base.
The Coast Guard also found a dog around the Riverwalk after being notified the body was in the water. It was later determined to be the same dog the woman had with her before going into the water.
It's not known how she got in the water, and the medical examiner's office will determine the official cause of death.
