(WXYZ) — 99.5 WYCD morning host Chuck Edwards was announced as one of six people who will be inducted into the Country Radio Hall of Fame this year.

The announcement came last Wednesday in Nashville a the Country Radio Seminar opening ceremony.

Edwards has spent the past two decades at WYCD where he co-hosted the afternoon show with the late Linda Lee for 16 years, and them moved to the morning show for the past four years.

"I made a mock radio station in my bedroom when I was 11 and my mom was the only listener!" he wrote in a Facebook post last week. "This is the only thing I ever wanted to do. I've never considered it work but a privilege to entertain my listeners and work for and along side the most remarkable people."

He went on to thank several people in the post who helped make his career happen.

Before coming to the Motor City, he spent 13 years in Dallas and started working in country radio in Knoxville in 1983.

"We are proud to welcome these deserving new members to the Country Radio Hall of Fame. Each has had a unique and lasting impact upon Country Radio," CRB's Country Radio Hall of Fame Committee Chairman Joel Raab said in a release.

Edwards has also been honored nationally and locally – winning the 2011 CMA personality of the year, multiple ACM personality nominations, Marconi nominations and the Michigan Association of Broadcasters' Broadcaster of the Year award.

Other on-air inductees include Tim Wilson and Mark "Hawkeye" Louis, while off-air inductees are Jim Duncan, Victor Sansone and George Beasley.

The hall of fame is dedicated to the recognition of those people who made a significant contribution to the radio industry over a 20-year period, 15 of which must be in the country music format.
