(WXYZ) — It’s a big day for two of Detroit's casinos, reopening their doors after weeks closed.

Under new, more relaxed state health orders, casinos in Michigan were allowed to open on Monday. Both MGM Grand and MotorCity casino will welcome back guests Wednesday.

MGM Grand reopens at 5 p.m. The vice president told 7 Action News Jenn Schanz the reason for the reopening on Wednesday instead of Monday was to test more than 1,000 returning employees for COVID-19.

“City of Detroit has provided all three casinos like other businesses they partner with, with rapid testing," said Louis Theros, Vice President/Legal Counsel for MGM Grand Detroit.

MGM Grand Detroit is now waiting to get those results back before it’s grand re-opening. MotorCity casino doing the same thing and welcomes guests back at 1 p.m.

Meanwhile, Greektown casino just announced they’ll welcome guests back starting Thursday on Christmas Eve.

Casino goers must wear masks inside and practice social distancing. There are also new capacity limits for casinos under the more relaxed health order.

"We're allowed 20 people per 1,000 square feet but in any district space no more than 100," said Theros.

Casino guests will also notice – no food and drinks this time around unless it’s takeout.

No concessions go for bowling alleys and movie theaters too as they were allowed to reopen on Monday. Both AMC and Emagine theaters will welcome back guests to the big screen starting Wednesday. They’ve been closed since November 18.

The week between Christmas and New Year’s is generally the busiest for movie theaters says Emagine Chairman Paul Glantz.

“We’re going to be showing News of the World with Tom Hanks, we’re going to be showing Wonder Woman. Wednesday and Thursday, we’ve got some classic Christmas films," said Paul Glantz, Co-founder and Chairman of Emagine Entertainment. “We’re looking at this as a half-full glass, delighted to bring folks back to the movies.”

Table games at MGM Grand will resume the day after Christmas at 8 a.m. The hotel, however, is not open for the time being.
