Severe storms possible tonight in metro Detroit

(WXYZ) — A complex system of thunderstorms may move through southeast Michigan late today into tonight. This particular setup in the atmosphere develops fast, and is difficult for computer models to accurately provide details on the timing and placement of storms. It's important to be aware of weather this evening and keep an eye out for potential storms.

Thunderstorms should begin developing over Wisconsin and Lake Michigan later this afternoon before spreading southeastward into Michigan. Southeast Michigan may see a few showers any time after 5 p.m, but the chance of strong thunderstorms will be greater from 8 p.m. through midnight.

Primary impacts will be heavy rain and frequent lightning, but hail and wind gusts in some storms may be large or strong enough to cause damage.

We will keep you updated on the track of the storms this evening on WXYZ and through our app.
