(WXYZ) — Two Michigan State Spartans football players earned Big Ten players of the week honors this week.

Linebacker Antjuan Simmons was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and kicker Matt Coughlin was named Big Ten Special Teams Co-Player of the week.

It came after the Spartans upset win over No. 8 Northwestern on Saturday.

Simmons and the Spartan defense held the Wildcats to 20 points and 63 yards rushing in the win. He had 13 tackles, including two tackles for loss and a sack. He's also recorded double-digit tackles in four of the five games this season.

Coughlin was 3/4 on field goals, including hitting the game-winner from 48 yards out with just 3:35 left in the game. The Spartans went up 23-20 at that time and beat the then-undefeated Northwestern team 29-20.

The Spartans will now take on undefeated Ohio State at home at 12 p.m. Saturday right here on Channel 7.
