LAKELAND, Fla. (WXYZ) -- James McCann is always talking baseball.
And this offseason, after watching rumors fly about losing his teammates, he was happy to see the clubhouse remain largely the same.
"We're all closer here, being around each other," McCann told Brad Galli on Thursday. "We know how each guy operates, and that could be a thing that helps you in the long run."
And while James is happy to be back around his teammates, there's one teammate - no doubt the closest to him - that helped him get ready for the season: his wife, Jessica.
"It's just like a whole fresh feeling," said Jessica McCann. "We're getting a fresh start on the 2017 season, so we're really excited."
In December, James posted a video on Instagram of Jessica throwing him batting practice pitches during an indoor workout.
"We were in Kentucky, and he wanted to keep his workouts going," said Jessica. "He didn't have someone to (pitch) to him, so I said 'hey, let me do it,' so we're a team and it was fun."
While Jessica has a softball background, she concedes James has the better arm between the two.
"He's got the McCannon," she laughed.
