MINNEAPOLIS (WXYZ) -- It's no secret that Brad Ausmus is an avid surfer, and it appears there will be more surfing in his immediate future.
Following his final game as Tigers manager on Sunday, Ausmus was asked in a FOX Sports Detroit interview what's next in his personal life.
"I'm gonna go visit some people," Ausmus said. "My dad back east, my daughter back east at college, and then I'm gonna go back home and catch up on some surfing."
The surfing answer provided a bit of a lighthearted end to a mostly somber interview.
"This is it," Ausmus reflected on being in the dugout during Sunday's game. "This is the last time I'll manage in a Tiger uniform. I was appreciative of the time here. I wasn't thinking too much about baseball because (Ian Kinsler) was running the game today. Just kind of a solemn feeling."
Tigers general manager Al Avila announced on September 22 that Ausmus would not return as manager for the 2018 season. Avila interviewed internal candidates over the weekend for the position.
