AUBURN HILLS (WXYZ) — Top Golf in Auburn Hills taken over by the Detroit Tigers on their off day so that the teammates of pitcher Matthew Boyd, can help raise money for his nonprofit helping children in Uganda.

“Our mission is to end child sex slavery through prevention and we started out partnering with one home in Uganda and now we’ve grown to over 90 children,” Tigers pitcher Matthew Boyd said.

The Boyd’s nonprofit, Kingdom Home, is a start in that shift of thought in Uganda, where they are well on their way of making an impact.

It’s a mission that started with their passion to instill change and influence community in one of the harshest places in the world.

“You’re talking about kids in Uganda being helped by a community in Detroit, Michigan. Most of these people who are going to help tonight will never meet those children, never hold them in their arms, they’ll never see them grow up, but through the Kingdom Home, they’ll feel connect to them and know they made a difference,” executive director of Big League Impact Raymond St. Martin said.

The idea is to build children's homes on a 100-acre plot of land. With a place to sleep, to grow, to learn, these once forgotten children can have a safe refuge, giving their upbringing a drastic change from the alternatives.

“We have a large goal of $250,000 to buy the land and build the first three homes, the land can hold up to six homes,” Ashley Boyd added.

“We don’t have any personal gain in it, we just feel like it’s the right thing to do, the tragedy would be to not do anything so we’re just going forward as we’re called and we just feel this is what needs to be done, Boyd added.

Matthew and his wife Ashley hope to resume this event each year at Top Golf in Auburn Hills.
