DETROIT (WXYZ) — Rocket Mortgage Classic tournament officials have announced a change in the public parking plan. Because of consistent rain this spring, the grass areas at Palmer Park where sponsors, partners and VIPs were scheduled to park will not be usable.
Due to that, guests holding passes marked "Palmer Park A" or "Palmer Park B" will now park in a private VIP lot at the Michigan State Fairgrounds, and enter off Woodward Ave. between 8 Mile and State Fair Ave. The VIPs will have dedicated, luxury motor coach shuttles with snacks and drinks to take them to the golf course.
General parking remains unchanged or the public, with the entrance of of West State Fair between Woodward Ave. and John R., with shuttles provided to Detroit Golf Club.
Parking will be $15 for Tuesday and Wednesday an $25 for the tournament on Thursday-Sunday. Hours for the lots are 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. A parking map is below.
Complimentary handicapped parking will be locate at the University of Detroit Mercy with ADA-accessible shuttles to and from Detroit golf club.
Rideshare options are also available, with the Palmer Park Community Building being the tournament's designated drop-off and pick-up location. Drivers will need to approach from the south via Woodward Ave. as Ponchartrain will be restricted to residents and credentialed vehicles only.
