GM Bob Quinn was shown celebrating and high-fiving after the pick.
Detroit traded picks 85, 149 and 182 to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for the 75th pick and the 197th pick.
Jackson ran a 5.23 40-yard dash at the combine with 28 reps on the bench press. He had a 26-inch vertical jump, 98-inch broad jump, 7.83-second 3-cone drill and 5.02-second 20-yard shuttle.
The Lions also added former Eagles OT Halapoulivaati Vaitai during the offseason.
Detroit and Head Coach Matt Patricia did coach Jackson at the Senior Bowl this year.
The pick comes after choosing Ohio State CB Jeff Okudah with the third overall pick on Thursday, Georgia running back D'Andre Swift in the third round earlier Friday and Notre Dame DE Julian Okwara with 67th overall pick
