Detroit Tigers General Manager Al Avila told reporters on Saturday that Manager Brad Ausmus will be back to coach the team in 2016.
Avila, who took over after Dave Dombrowski was released from his contract, said he met with Ausmus earlier in the week to discuss his future.
"On Friday afternoon, I met with manager Brad Ausmus and during our discussion I told him I wanted him to continue as manager of the Tigers in 2016," Avila said.
According to Avila, there has been an on-going evaluation process over the past two months, "most notably at the Major League level with our players, the manager and the coach staff," Avila said in a statement.
Ausmus did say he wanted to continue managing the team, according to Avila.
"It is my belief, and our collective belief within our baseball operations department, that Brad is the right manager for this team given where the team is, at this point in time, and for us to achieve our goals in 2016," he said.
Avila added that the team's goal is to bring a World Series Championship to Tigers fans, and said they are continuing to work.
"We are working together every day to be the best we can today, and rest assured we will make necessary adjustments needed along the way," Avila said.
In two seasons with the Tigers, Ausmus has a 162-153 record with nine games remaining in this season.
