With the 21st overall pick, The Lions selected a linebacker from Florida. The second round of the NFL Draft begins Friday night at 7pm, and there are still plenty of options left on the board for the Detroit Lions.
If the Lions are looking to keep adding to their defense, cornerback Quincy Wilson from Florida might be a good pick. The team has three cornerbacks entering contract years, so adding depth to that position is not a bad idea. Wilson has size working for him, but could lack for speed and agility.
The Lions could also go local and grab Michigan defensive end Chris Wormley. He's another guy with size on his side, and is spoken highly of for his character and leadership. Kansas State DE Jordan Willis would also be a good option, as he directly addresses the need for help with the pass rush. The Lions were 30th in the league last year in sacks, and their first round pick didn't directly address this issue.
On the other side of the ball there's another local option in Michigan tight end Jake Butt. He is recovering from a second ACL surgery, but the Lions proved past injuries don't scare them away with their first round pick.
At the wide receiver position, Chris Godwin from Penn State could be a good fit. He has the potential to make an impact as a rookie in the NFL, and he's proven he can step up in the biggest game of his college football career. Ohio State's Curtis Samuel and Eastern Washington's Cooper Kupp could also be good options for a position where the Lions lack depth.
As far as running backs go, Joe Mixon from from Oklahoma and Dalvin Cook from Florida State are both still available. Mixon is one of the most talented running backs in this year's draft class, but he wasn't invited to the combine due to the fact he was arrested and pleaded guilty to assault for punching a woman in the face three years ago.
Cook is also a highly regarded talent on the field who has seen his draft stock fall due to off-field problems (including three arrests).
