The Detroit Lions introduced their first round draft pick --- Florida linebacker Jarrad Davis -- at a press conference at their practice facility Friday afternoon.

"Thrilled to be here. Thrilled to be a Lion. You couldn't have told me I was going to be here. You couldn't have convinced me," Davis said as he took the podium.

Lions GM Bob Quinn said Thursday night that Davis is a 'character guy' and that was obvious to those attending Friday's press conference.

"As a person...Not only as a player, but as a person, you have to be built on something," Davis said. "You have to understand that football is only part of the day."

Lions head coach Jim Caldwell also spoke to Davis' abilities and leadership on the field. "He's a studious individual. Really trying to perfect his craft," said Caldwell. "He's fast. I think the numbers speak for themselves. I think it's rare to see a guy with his size and bulk that can move like he moves."
