Veteran Lions player Alex Carter was recently moved from cornerback to safety for the upcoming season.
Commenting on the switch Carter says, "It's a curve. With every change comes growth, and you have to learn some things, but I feel like I'm picking it up."
Head coach Jim Caldwell also commented on the change saying, "We made it early on to give him an opportunity to line up at that position, obviously he has speed. He has size. And thus far I think he's adapting. We'll see in the long run, but we just think that he has the the bulk, the size and those kinds of things that can play in that spot."
Carter practiced at the safety position last week, and Caldwell confirmed Wednesday that the switch is meant to be permanent.
Carter was drafted by the Lions in the 2015 NFL Draft. He was released by the team last September before being picked up on the practice squad. Carter made his debut with the Lions last December.
