DETROIT (WXYZ) -- The Red Wings signed forward Turner Elson and traded for goaltender Tom McCollum on Saturday.
Elson spent the 2016-17 season with the Colorado Avalanche organization, playing 13 games for AHL San Antonio. Elson has one career NHL appearance, April 9, 2016, for the Calgary Flames.
McCollum, a 2008 Detroit draft pick, had been with the Red Wings organization at various levels through the 2015-16 season before spending 2016-17 in the Calgary Flames organization. Calgary received a conditional 2018 seventh-round draft pick in exchange for McCollum.
