The Horizon League will delay the start of fall sports until at least October 1 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The decision allows each campus to further focus on ensuring return to competition protocols,” the league said in a press release. "If competition occurs, it will not begin before October 1."

The Horizon League includes Detroit Mercy and Oakland.

The delay isn't strictly regular season contests. It includes all exhibition, league, and out-of-league games.

The conference said its top priority is "the health, safety and well-being of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff."
