WXYZ — Michigan State basketball is dealing with more COVID-19 setbacks and while head coach Tom Izzo spoke of that, his bigger message was focused on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Izzo admitted he's grown more as the social injustice protests and message continue to spread around the country, and wants to continue to help his players, both black and white, learn from what Dr. King preached.
"Watching what's been happening on the news lately, I gotta say it sickens me. It makes me feel bad that a guy lost his life fighting for something, that over 50 years later, I'm watching military personnel gather around our capital building with a fence, and it just makes me sick," Izzo said.
It was made very clear today that @MSU_Basketball will not 'shut up and dribble.'

On #MLKDay, Tom Izzo took plenty of time to continue the discussion of social injustices, and wants his players to continue to learn about the teachings of the great Martin Luther King Jr. pic.twitter.com/PcMmimsx4r
Izzo has encouraged his players to continue to have discussions and stand for what they believe, adding that now more than ever is a time to come together and unite for equality.
"It's been over 50 years to try and make a dream come true, we always tell our guys to dream big, he tried to make a dream come true, and today we're going to put up a big TV and we're going to watch one or two of the documentaries that I've watched recently that I think have had an impact," Izzo added.
