Jake Rudock will replace Dan Orlovsky as Lions backup QB

According to Dan Orlovsky, Lions QB Jake Rudock will take over backup duties this coming season.

Orlovsky said this morning on SirusFM Radio that the team recently informed him that they're going in a "different direction" next season.

The 34-year-old Orlovsly has been Matthew Stafford's backup over seven seasons with the team, but the Lions will let his contract expire next month.

After playing QB at University of Michigan -- including a season under Jim Harbaugh -- Rudock was drafted by the Lions in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL draft.

Rudock was upgraded from the practice squad to the active roster last November. It was a sign that the Lions saw him as part of their future plans.
