Ken Holland knew his time as Red Wings GM was over when Steve Yzerman stepped down in Tampa Bay

(WXYZ) — Ken Holland barely started his opening remarks in Edmonton before pausing to thank the people that helped shape his career the last 30 years.

The Oilers new general manager and president of hockey operations thanks the Ilitches, his front office comrades, the players who wore the winged wheel, and the organization he called home for almost his entire professional life.

He also shared the moment he knew his time as Red Wings GM was over.

"Did I envision myself being a Red Wing forever? Yeah. I did."

Ken Holland said he knew it was his time to step aside as soon as Steve Yzerman stepped down in Tampa Bay.
