(WXYZ) — Shea Patterson waited seven rounds and another seven days before he got his shot.

The Michigan quarterback watched 10 of his teammates get drafted, and another handful sign free agent deals.

Sunday, he grabbed his shot with the Chiefs.

"I didn't get drafted, but I'm going to continue to work and stay ready for when my number's called," Patterson told WXYZ.

"It was the craziest thing. I had so much support, especially from Coach Harbaugh. I know him and my agent were talking. They said something about the Chiefs," he added. "I'm excited."

Patterson joins a quarterback room with Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes and fellow former Wolverines signal-caller Chad Henne.

"It's unbelievable. I'm gonna go in there and learn everything I can, obviously. The best quarterback in the league, if not one of them. I'm gonna be like a sponge. You've got Chad Henne in there. I remember going to games, watching him when I was five, six years old. It's pretty crazy how things run full circle," he said.
