Michigan State celebrated Mike Sadler's life on Sunday.

Two days later, the athletic department is honoring the punter, who died last month, with a Hall of Fame distinction.

Sadler will enter the MSU Athletics Hall of Fame, as a member of the Class of 2016.

The Spartans are waiving the waiting period to induct Sadler immediately.

"Mike Sadler embodied everything great about being a Spartan. His excellence on the football field and in the classroom was surpassed only by the first-class manner in which he represented not only Spartan football, but Michigan State University," MSU athletic director Mark Hollis said in a statement.

"After careful consideration and a thorough examination of his credentials, we decided to waive the waiting period and induct him immediately."

During his time in East Lansing, Sadley was named first-team All-Big Ten twice and a first team All-American in 2013.

He is MSU's only four-time Academic All-American.

The other honoreers are football player Eric Allen, wrestler Don Behm, soccer player Trevor Harris, football and baseball standout Steve Juday, cross country/track and field athletes Anne Pewe Khademian and Ken Popejoy.

The Hall of Fame ceremony is Thursday, September 22 with an induction dinner, followed by recognition on Saturday, September 24 at Michigan State's home football game against Wisconsin.
