(WXYZ) — A movie based on the life of legendary Detroit Red Wings goaltender Terry Sawchuk will begin playing at 10 metro Detroit theatres next week.

"Goalie" will be released on Jan. 31 at 10 Emagine Theatres locations. They are: Birch Run, Novi, Palladium Birmingham, Royal Oak, Rochester Hills, Canton, Macomb, Saline and Hartland.

Directed by Adriana Maggs, the film stars Kevin Pollack from "A Few Good Men" and "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," Georgina Reilly and Mark O'Brien from "Marriage Story" and "Ready or Not" starring as Sawchuk.

"The life of a professional hockey player was not always a glamorous one. For legendary goaltender Terry Sawchuk, each save means one more gash to his unmasked face and one more drink to numb the pain. Even with a wife and seven children at home, he is haunted by the void left from his childhood which he tried to fill with cheering crowds. Sawchuk traveled across the country racking up 103 shutouts and 400 stitches to his face, proving that this is a man who lives, breathes, and dies a goalie," a description of the film reads.

Sawchuk helped the Red Wings win a Stanley Cup three times in four seasons, and was a four-time Vezina Trophy winner for best goaltender. He played in Detroit from 1949-1955, 1957-1964 and from 1968-1969.
