DETROIT (WXYZ) — It's hard to believe that just a few days ago, Nate Lashley wasn't sure if he'd be playing in the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Now, after a second 9-under round for a 63 in the tournament, he has a commanding lead.
Heading into Sunday, Lashley sits six strokes ahead of J.T. Poston, and both will play in the final grouping looking to win the inaugural PGA Tour event in Detroit.
Lashley carded his second bogey-free round, and in all three rounds, he has just one bogey, on the par-3 11th hole during the second round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
2018 Masters Champion Patrick Reed will be in the second-to-last group on Sunday after shooting a 7-under (65) and will be paired with Cameron Tringale. They are at -15 and -16 respectively.
Jackson, Mich. native and Oakland University graduate Brian Stuard also had a great round, shooting a 65. He's tied for 9th in the tournament and will tee off in some of the final groupings.
Lashley currently sits at No. 132 in the FedExCup standings and No. 352 in the World Golf Rankings. His only top-10 finish came at the Puerto Rico Open in February, and this is just his second season on the PGA Tour after one year in the Web.com Tour.
