The holiday season can be trying, but the spirit of the season was alive and well for a group of Trenton youth hockey players.

With the help of the Detroit Red Wings, 21 youngsters went shopping for kids that are currently staying at Children's Hospital of Michigan and likely will be there throughout the holidays.

The kids didn't ask for anything in return, but a chance to help others and hang out with their favorite players.

That's when the Red Wings decided that these kids, deserved a little help of the holiday season as well.

Each received a shopping spree of their own, to find gifts for themselves and their families, as well as some brand new hockey gear.

When asked about their favorite part of the night, one youth player said that helping provide Christmas for someone who couldn't be home was it.
