(WXYZ) — The Edmonton Oilers want Ken Holland to become their general manager.
They've had negotiations with the longtime Red Wings GM, Sportsnet reports.
Now it's up to Holland. If he wants the job, it's his, according to the report.
Two weeks ago, the Red Wings hired Steve Yzerman as GM, moving Holland upstairs. In Sweden at the U-18 world championships, the pair scouted players together.
"Holland gained a fulsome description of what his role would be under Yzerman," according to Sportsnet.
After 36 years in Detroit, Holland received an extension with his new title. But speculation about a new landing spot hasn't ceased.
"Holland has spoken with (Oilers CEO Bob) Nicholson, and it is believed the two are down to short strokes in defining all the job would entail in Edmonton. They are believed to still be hammering out details as the weekend hits," Sportsnet says.
The report suggests the Oilers would be prepared for a press conference next week if Holland accepts the gig.
