Spartans looking to 'measure up' in showdown with Buckeyes

EAST LANSING (WXYZ) — In 2017, Michigan State had a chance to put themselves in the drivers seat in the Big Ten East division if they were to beat the Buckeyes in Columbus.

They lost the game, soundly, 48-3 in one of the more embarrassing losses in the Mark Dantonio era.

That was then, and the seniors now remember that well.

"Maturity I guess, we kind of had a younger team and maybe we weren't ready for that one, but we'll be ready for this one," senior quarterback Brian Lewerke said.

The Spartans defense didn't have it's usual lock-down performance in their last game out against Indiana, but it was the offense that lifted them up and survived a shootout, something that could play a factor if things with Ohio State get out of hand.

"How we played against in the tail end of Northwestern and this past week, we were in rhythm, Brian Lewerke is playing extremely well, anytime you do something well that gives you a little confidence and you get on a little bit of a roll, so that's a positive," head coach Mark Dantonio said.

Kickoff is slated for 7:30 on WXYZ and we will have a post game show immediately following the game from Columbus.
