San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich encouraged Boban Marjanovic to leave the team, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
Popovich told the newspaper that Marjaovic was prepared to stay with the Spurs for what would have been a small salary, and Popovich had to lovingly push him out the door.
Popovich said "He's such a good kid, at some point I had to work to get him to understand that $21 million was different than $3 million."
Marjanovic was a free agent this summer. The Pistons signed him to a $21 million, three-year contract in July.
